What This is All About:
"They" live by the credo stated implicitly by the former Canadian Environment Minister Christine Stewart that, "No matter if the science is all phony, there are collateral environmental benefits...climate change provides the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world." One of their leaders, the current co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Sir John Houghton, was quoted as saying once that, "Unless we announce disasters, no one will listen." These statements represent precisely the kind of thinking where one can see the beauty of this “global con” for all its worth. Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW), like any other commodity to be sold, really comes down to the newsworthiness (sensationalism) of the subject matter. The issue of global warming/climate change is loaded from top to bottom because it uses not only the daily weather (erroneously) as a means to convey the authenticity of the situation (can't get away from the weather) but also poor model prognosticates (i.e. fortune telling) that play on both our physical and mental emotions with horrific "what if" scenarios which are presented as truths...along the same lines as those terrible made for TV enviro-disaster movies.
We recognize and acknowledge these kinds of political tactics as they have been going on forever, but there is no room for this in the scientific disciplines. Those of us who are still clearly rational need to think outside of the current climate change box and see what is actually going on, instead of believing what the latest doomsday model is spitting out. And then we need to ask who stands to gain from this kind of misinformation and why. Look for the alternative explanations (or opinions)…especially if something sounds larger than life or out of control (again, like something from a "B" movie). Champion the environment by all means - but do it, but do it for the right reasons! And, for the meantime anyway, do not believe ANY so-called "expert" on this particular subject (even us) without researching all the angles (scientific, economic, political, sociological, and even psychological). Yes, it can be complicated, but that's exactly what they are counting on...to cloud the issue with enough complexity that no one will look too closely. Please help fight against political hyperbole and propaganda in the sciences and help return this pseudoscience to its rightful state. |
